wyatt's way

"O Tannenbaum" Wyatt's way ;-) Recorded Summer 1981, released 1982-03 on "Nothing Can Stop Us" (Rough Trade) … Robert Wyatt also wrote the liner notes for a 1991 compilation of '7Ts piano pieces by Cornelius Cardew which featured "Red flag prelude" (197X). Hey and can someone please add Mr. Wyatt's interpretation to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Tannenbaum ?!? [Nope ain't gonna do it myself.]

swiss starter

From Switzerland / Svizzera / la Suisse / die Schweiz: it's Starter! Their (untitled) debut lp (recorded in Bern in 1981) has just been reprinted by Dark Entries (who have a very impractical site), cat. no. DE-016. Should you buy their reissue, see to it you get the A4 inlay ànd the badge too. Main reasons for purchase: "Lunapark" by the original Francis Foss + Claudine Chirac + Jet Harbour line-up, and the lone bonus track by the Foss & Gray duo "Victim" (1985) … plus the interview below, perhaps. Also, I'm guessing Starter's "Tanger" (co-written by Stephan Eicher) is where current Swiss act What's Wrong With Us? got their name from … (Curious for thèir new album "Not Enough", incidentally.)

reiss' you

The first two albums of You - "Electric Day" (Cain 1979) and "Time Code" (Rock City 1983) - have been reissued by Bureau B, both on lp and cd - with extra tracks on the latter format only - you can hear two of the six below. Sadly You's "Scanner" 12" (on black vinyl! Cain 1981) has been overlooked as a possible source for such bonus bonanza.

indoor life

Indoor Life … from Frisco … as underrated as any … and in dire need of reappraisal and a reissue programme ;-) By way of consolation, "Voodoo" can be found on "A Man & A Machine III" (2011-09).

a man and a machine

Amaam3

Wonderful tracks off my fave comp of the year: the "A Man & A Machine III" v/a 2cd (le Son du Maquis cat no. 214, rel. 2011-09-08). I could have picked any track, really, as the third volume is the best yet in the series. (Apparently it's won a Qwartz award for best electronics compilations. Don't think Qwartz or Maquis will win prizes for keeping their sites up to date, though.)
