neuer weller

Nice, no more, no less. And no links, by way of warning: don't get hooked, let Mr Weller's marketing machine seek its own way to the money, via remixes and limited editions and the insiduous game of supply & demand and other permutations on that oh so nineties rhyme of exploiting yer stronghold of fans. 1991-2011: I've had it. Shame on you Weller.

duran duran duran

While we wait for that David Lynch / Duran Duran collaboration on 2011-03-23, here's a great video by Pongale Disco from Venezuela for Ed Flis's Duran Duran Duran … who did a cool Slayer remix too, incidentally.

strictly instrumental

Strictlyinstrumental7

Not just yer average production values … I'd say between novelty and Meek? Wasn't sure whether I'd pick them up from the bargain bin at first, but "Strictly Instrumental" is actually a great series ... Too bad it's not so well documented, though, and normally charges fullprice at that. The label's site (Buffalo Bop is an imprint of the German Dee-Jay label) isn't yer most practical either - no not at all. Still: great comps, superb music!

clark e. smith

Michael Clark's company didn't just work to Bruce Gilbert's music obviously! Bolan, Bowie & Branca have been danced to, as well as Laibach, Pop & Reed, or the compositions of Jeffrey Hinton and Igor Stravinsky - see also here & there … But the most striking collaboration has probably been that between Michael Clark and the Fall

"Windfall light - the visual language of ECM" (Lars Müller 2009-11, ISBN 9783037781579 in English, 9783037781975 auf Deutsch) features approx. 1300 illustrations from the archives of the Edition of Contemporary Music (ECM) record label (not just sleeve art). The book supersedes their "Sleeves of desire" (Lars Müller 1996-04, ISBN 9783906700854, also Princeton Architectural Press 1996-07, ISBN 9781568980645). The publisher's site is not at all handy (one of the most impractical ever, actually), so do use the More / Order drop down menu to have a look inside the book. Fans may also appreciate a gentle reminder re: "Horizons touched - the music of ECM" by Steve Lake & Paul Griffiths (Granta 2007-04-02, ISBN 9781862078802). Discovered via http://historyofourworld.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/windfall-light-the-visual-language-of-ecm/ ! And re: the music do read the background info … or the next post …

d-d-er brinkman-n-n-n at the bemf soul center

Media_httpwwwblogging_umacx

Funkhäuser Thomas Brinkmann will appear twice (as Soul Center and as Klick) at the Brussels Electronic Music Festival (held tomorrow & over the weekend, viz. 2010-03-26 > 2010-03-28) at Recyclart & Bozar (PSK). Also appearing at the BEMF: Atom, Cluster, Cyclo, Aoki Takamasa, and many, many more! As for the two tracks above: "n.m.q.p." was originally released on the "Potlatch" v/a 12" e-p on Bruchstuecke (2002), and also appeared on TB's "Rôw" cd compilation (2002). It brilliantly toys around with a sample of Nina Simone's 1965 cover verion of "Ne me quitte pas" (Jacques Brel). "[Anna 1]" was originally the A side of the "Anna" 12" and later resurfaced on 2002's "Rosa" cd, both on TB's own Max E(rnst) label. Hey and there's loads of Brinkmann reviews of the 2000 > 2004 period here!
