anton price's new band covers warp

Tonight 2012-01-27 at 21 o'locco at Café Vertigo in Antwerp: Anton Price aka Bohr Bug aka Dago Sondervan plays Autechre / Aphex Twin & Squarepusher covers plus own compositions old and new. The band's exciting new line up equally features Mirko Banovic on bass & moog pedal, Peter Vandenberghe on synths and Thomas Jillings on electronic sax. Meanhwile here's some Ae & AFX rarities from 1991-1993!

the yellow machine's fading flower

Flower Machine's "Fading Yellow" series continues (beyond volume 10) … It's not clear from the liner notes whose version of "For all that I am" is the original, but it's Soulful Bowlful's, not the Creation's; Stephen Friedland aka Brute Force wrote it with one Paul Kahan. The Open Window's story, or rather Peter Schickele's, is a long and special one; this track is off the "Oh! Calcutta!" soundtrack (1969). More on Victoire Scott here, but Lazy Jack's a mystery. Hey and the Pebbles were from Antwerp in Belgium, got that?

birds that change colour

Fantastic music … housed in a discouraging cover, sadly, as you can hardly read the band's name. Which may cause Koen Kohlbacher's Birds That Change Colour to be filed under "On Recording The Sun (And The Moon)" - the album's title (Munich 2011). For fans of Paul Roland, Ned Collette, Syd Barrett, Donovan, Kevin Ayers, … and delicate pop music tout court. Give it several spins and you'll discover one of the best albums of the year. And to see them live … 2011-11-11 or 2011-11-19 have cool bills …

magical southern nights

george smits

Toet Toet Zbolk Zbolk ... With "Isomopolis. ICC" (Ultra Eczema cat. no. UE89, 2011-02), Antwerp dynamo Dennis Tyfus has just released his first George Smits lp. And according to the hardest working man in the business of Belgium's underground heritage, a.o., there's more to come from Smits' vaults. Earlier on, Lowlands had released "Zbolk Night Radio" (1995 cat. no. AUDIO 002) and "Toet" (2001, AUDIO 012) on cd via its Audioview imprint. "Isomopolis. ICC" is a beautifully packaged and well documented picture disc limited to 200 copies. It features three compositions in three parts by Ferre Grignard's former guitar (etc) player recorded at the Antwerp ICC in 1981. (Highly recommended for fans of "Mzui" and Michael O'Shea!) The amazing documentary above was made by Karel Schoetens for the BRT in 1984; the interview was conducted by Wim Van Mulders. Just watch this for the frères Bachet fragment alone!
