lesley duncan's love song

I keep getting back to this song … do you know what I mean? Lesley Duncan (née Cox) wrote and performed the original version in 1969, while Elton John's cover version from 1970 - which also features la Duncan - has made the song famous ever since … resulting in fine versions by Dionne Warwick(e) (1971), Peggy Lee (studio version d.d. 1972), etc. (Apparently, David Bowie and John Hutchinson had already recorded a demo of this song as soon as 1968-12, later to be released on the bootleg "The Forgotten Songs Of David Robert Jones".)

indoor life

Indoor Life … from Frisco … as underrated as any … and in dire need of reappraisal and a reissue programme ;-) By way of consolation, "Voodoo" can be found on "A Man & A Machine III" (2011-09).

swamp dogg reissue request

A doggone blisterin' comment on yankeeland, recorded in 1972 by the magnificent Jerry Williams jr, ladies & gentlemen! And hey reissue labels, how's about reprinting these two Swamp Dogg albums on vinyl - viz. the classic debut "Total Destruction To Your Mind" (Canyon 1970, gatefold!) and the ultra rare "An Opportunity … Not A Bargain!!!" (Wizard 1977)? Or how about a Charly 2cd that reprises "Uncut And Classified 1A" (CRB 1026, 1981) & "Unmuzzled!" (CRB 1045, 1983)?

tune in (to a new reissue label)

So far so so: the brand new Tune In reissue label's output includes Beacon Street Union, Hardwater, the Merchants of Dream (see the next post), NGC 4594, the Velvet Illusions and Wichita Fall … Well, the latter's "Life Is But A Dream" (Imperial 1969) is pretty fantastic, actually, as you can hear here:

kissing spell's acid folk comps

As we say goodbye to Winter and rebonjour to Spring, here's Midwinter … belatedly. (High time that lp got a quality reissue, incidentally.) Around 1994, Erewhon & Kissing Spell released two volumes of "The History Of UK Underground Folk Rock 1968-1978" (cat. no. KSCD904 and KSCD905) … Here's a couple of favourite tracks off those folk comps …

a black mass for wasted schlemiels

Media_httpukpsychtrip_bwmwn

Imho this long, hitherto unknown looped version of "Black mass" by Jason Crest was secretly cut to acetate for private use (a séance, a projection) by some crafty engineer (with a penchant for occultism) who was working at the studio at the time … The short (regular) version can be found on the B side of the "A place in the sun" 7" (Philips UK 1969-08) or more easily via the "Rubble Four The 49 Minute Technicolour Dream" v/a lp (Bam-Caruso 1984 or 1986, KIRI 027) or "The Rubble Collection 2" v/a cd (Bam-Caruso 1992, cat. no. RUBBLE CD 2); all "Rubble" volumes have been reissued by Past & Present on cd and lp a couple of years ago, incidentally. The hidden track after "Wasted ground" is "Merry go round" by ? (unknown acetate). All of the tracks on display here are off the brand new "Psychedelic Schlemiels 4 More Lost Sounds From The Britpsych Scene 1966-1969" v/a cd (Wooden Hill 2010, cat. no. WHCD031).
